About Us

Who are we?

We are your friends and neighbors living in East Jefferson county who are members of an organization which encourages and promotes safe, skilled handling and navigation of sail and power boats. We are a local unit of the United States Power Squadrons®, a voluntary, non-profit fraternal boating organization that has the objectives of education and civic service.

The Point Wilson Sail and Power Squadron is a 501c(3) educational non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible. We received our Charter on March 22, 2006. Current membership: 68.

Our Purpose as a Squadron Unit

  • Promoting and teaching Safe Boating on the Water and in the Classroom.
  • Squadrons contribute to boating safety by offering local public boating safety classes several times each year.
  • USPS members provide vessel safety examinations for recreational boats and personal watercraft.
  • Members enjoy friendship and camaraderie on and off the water with fellow members who share your love of the water and a desire for knowledge about boating.
  • Squadrons provide a full range of classes, covering everything from knots to celestial navigation.
  • Squadrons provide chart update information to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as part of the Cooperative Charting Program.
  • Fun is a major component of USPS membership. On the water, in the class room and at all squadron functions.
